Coyote Lab Essay
Part I:
In this case study, some questions that I intend to answer are, “How will coyote removal in West Texas would impact the environment?” and “Can this removal effect the area or the ecosystem?”. My ideas are to use two control sites and two experimental sites. Two control sites would be the non-removal of coyotes and the two experimental sites would be the removal of coyotes. I will monitor the changes in the experimental sites, including the increase and decrease of the populations.
Part I (b):
Part II:
In this experiment, there are four different sites: two experimental sites and two control sites. In the two experimental sites, the coyote habitat will be removed. While in two control sites, the coyote habitat will remain. This experiment will have time length of 3 years. First year, I will be monitoring the control sites. Then the last two years, I will be monitoring the experimental sites, with the removal of coyotes habitats. I predict that if the coyotes inhabitants are removed, the populations of meso-predators will increase and the rodents will decrease.
Part III:
The graph showed how the population of meso-predators have grown in the experimental sites caused of the coyote removal. Therefore, the meso-predators population will probably increase and the rodents will decrease. Rodents are endangered because the meso-predators will eat them and cause them to decrease.
Part IV:
The primary factor controlling the rodent populations is the amount of meso-predators. Meso-predators are in need of food to survive. Given the changes in population size, I predict that the rodents population would decrease and cause some serious problems.
Part V:
Looking at the graph, it shows that the Ord’s Kangaroo Rat change in the absence of coyotes. The rodents diversity are decreased in the experimental sites. And the Ord’s Kangaroo rats have also been decrease due to the absence of the coyotes. The coyotes are the guides in the community, other animals in the ecosystem depend on them. This experiment could impact the meso-predators and the rodents. The rodent diversity could be increased in meso-predators. It could affect the amount of species in both sites.

Dear Mrs Sandy Cheeks,
Howdy, My name is Ivy San Pablo of the Environmental Company. I have come to discuss about the Coyote removal experiment in West Texas Ecosystem. This experiment have become an issue. As the representative of the Nature Conservancy, you’ll probably be interested in the data i’ve collected. And I also hope that you will understand the role of the coyote in the ecosystems community.
All these years, I’ve been busy observing the experiment of the coyote habitants removal. The meso-predators are increasing while the rodents are decreasing. That is because of the coyote removal. If we remove the coyotes, there will be no animals that will hunt down the meso-predators. Keeping the coyotes can have a good impact to the community, because it play an important role in the ecosystem.
In conclusion, I think that we should keep the community with coyotes because it is an important species in the food chain, if we decide to remove them, the meso-predators can increase and that will be an issue to the community. Please understand the experiment and the data we collected for you. We must save the coyote and their habitats. Thank you for your time and consideration.
With regards,
Ivy San Pablo
