- Mangrove swamps typically fall within one of two broad categories of classification: mainland or oceanic island.
- According to the researches, many different mangrove swamps around the worlds has a huge gap exists in the understanding of how the different components of such intricate natural systems work together.
- The mangroves of Twin Cays belong to the oceanic-island type.
- Twin Cays is a large untouched mangrove range covering more than a square kilometer of a shallow lagoon.
- tall red mangroves (Rhizophora mangle) that extend stilt-like roots into the deeper water, beyond the peat bank that supports the trees.
- Red mangrove dominates the lower reaches of the intertidal zone not only because it stands on stilt roots but also because its seedlings can better survive the rigors of the fringing environment (hardships that include a dearth of nutrients and an abundance of possible predators).
- The interior of Twin Cays is lined with numerous shallow ponds and mudflats. Without growing trees, some places contain eroded stumps of large trees
- unusual inhabitant of the intertidal zone is a small fish called the mangrove rivulus (Rivulus marmoratus).
- most densely populated habitat in the mangrove swamp surrounds the subtidal area of the red mangrove stilt roots.
- irreversible changes in the fundamental structure of the ecosystem ensue once the trees are destroyed.
Summary:
Caribbean Mangrove swamp is where the line dividing ocean and continent blurs. It is a typically fall in one of two broad categories of classification: mainland or oceanic island. More than 20 other researchers from Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History examine the Mangrove on the nearby Twin Cays , a large untouched mangrove range covering more than a square kilometer of a shallow lagoon. The Mangrove of Twin Cays belong to the oceanic-island type. The periphery of Twin Cays and its canals is bordered by tall red mangroves that extend stilt-like roots into the deeper water to support the trees.
The richness of life contained within the mangrove forest at Twin Cays raises immediate concern for the risk to biodiversity that develops as such delicate environments are lost to human hands. Because mangrove swamps destroyed in this way would have otherwise supported countless varieties of animals, including juvenile deep water fish, it seems clear that these losses will increasingly threaten the natural wealth of the ocean, both near and far from shore.

Reflection:
After reading this article. it makes me wants to go see one. Mangroves seems so beautiful, I searched up to see how they look like. It provides and does a lot to other species and it should be protected. Human hands is destroying and cutting the trees which is causing for it to be difficult or even impossible for them to recover because of irreversible changes of ecosystem once trees are destroyed.
